In order to understand what is done with traditional Irish stories today, it is perhaps wise to start at the beginning, with the conversion of Ireland from paganism to Christianity. While the focus of this examination will be, for the most part, on the transferal of the female goddess figure from pre-Christian Irish stories and culture to early Christian culture, it will undoubtedly shed light on the habit of “modernizing” traditional stories and character types.
